This informational website
This website introduces Kobie and his books and allows you to request the complimentary first chapter of The Unforgettable by email. Website contact-form submissions and newsletter subscriptions remain unavailable. Amazon purchase buttons are inactive. The website does not accept book orders or collect payment information.
Correspondence by email
If you email info@kobiemellett.com, your email address, name if supplied, message and any relevant attachments or email-routing information are processed to respond and administer the correspondence. Please share only what is necessary and avoid identity documents, payment information or sensitive personal information.
Sending an email is voluntary. Without enough information to understand or respond to an enquiry, Kobie may be unable to assist. Your message is private and will not be published. Correspondence does not subscribe you to chapter delivery, newsletters or marketing.
Technical information and cookies
Hosting and security systems may record IP addresses, requested pages, access times, browser or device information, errors and related technical information to deliver the website, maintain security, prevent misuse and investigate faults. Disabling visitor forms does not prevent this technical processing.
WordPress uses cookies for sign-in and administration where applicable. No advertising, general-purpose visitor analytics or newsletter engagement tracking has been activated for this limited website. Browser settings let you control cookies; blocking necessary cookies may affect functionality.
Why information is processed
Necessary website operation, proportionate security measures and responding to correspondence are based on legitimate interests where permitted by POPIA and balanced against your rights. Information may also be retained or disclosed where required by law or needed for a genuine legal claim. No particular statutory obligation requires you to send a reader enquiry.
When you request Chapter 1, we collect your email address, optional name, consent and confirmation status, and request-related records needed to fulfil and administer your request. You must explicitly consent to this processing and confirm your email address before the chapter is sent. This permission is limited to the requested chapter and does not enrol you in newsletters or marketing.
Service providers and access
xneelo hosts the website and official author mailbox. WordPress supports website administration, WP Armour provides local spam-protection functionality, WP Mail SMTP supports authorised website email, and the file-protection plugin restricts selected files. MailPoet stores chapter-request and consent records in WordPress and sends the confirmation and chapter-delivery emails using the configured xneelo SMTP service. Contact Form 7 remains deactivated. Chapter requests do not subscribe you to marketing newsletters.
Access to reader correspondence is restricted to Kobie and authorised technical service providers where needed for hosting, email, security or support. Information may also be disclosed where legally required. Personal information is not sold or supplied for another organisation’s marketing.
Processing outside South Africa
Information is not guaranteed to remain solely in South Africa. Hosting, backup, support or email services may involve international service providers, and your own email provider may process information overseas. xneelo’s published processing arrangements provide for international service providers and contractual safeguards. Cross-border processing must have a lawful basis under POPIA; the location of a plugin developer alone does not mean reader correspondence is sent to that developer.
Keeping and deleting information
Ordinary reader enquiries and related correspondence are kept for up to 12 months after resolution, subject to periodic deletion review. Records no longer needed will be deleted or de-identified. This is a managed retention policy, not a promise that automatic deletion software is installed.
Records may be kept longer where genuinely required by law, an unresolved dispute or the establishment or defence of a legal claim, with access restricted and the reason reviewed. Hosting logs and backup copies follow the provider’s retention arrangements. Deleting an email from the active mailbox does not immediately remove it from existing backup copies; those copies expire under the applicable backup cycle.
Chapter-request and consent records are retained only as reasonably needed to fulfil the request, resolve delivery problems and document consent, ordinarily for up to 12 months after fulfilment, subject to genuine legal requirements and periodic deletion review. Access is restricted to Kobie and authorised technical service providers. You may request deletion or withdraw permission by contacting info@kobiemellett.com. There is no ongoing newsletter subscription to cancel.
Protecting your information
Reasonable safeguards include restricted access, HTTPS website connections and the configured authenticated email service. No system can guarantee complete security. Where a security compromise triggers notification duties, affected people and the Information Regulator will be notified as required by POPIA.
Your rights
Subject to POPIA, you may ask whether information is held about you, request access, correction or deletion, or object to processing. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw it; withdrawal does not undo earlier lawful processing or prevent justified retention on another lawful basis.
Send requests to info@kobiemellett.com. Only information reasonably necessary to verify your identity will be requested. Any applicable lawful procedure, fee or reason for refusing a request will be explained.
Complaints and the Information Regulator
You are welcome to raise a concern with info@kobiemellett.com. You may also complain directly to South Africa’s Information Regulator without first contacting Kobie.
To complain, register on the Regulator’s eServices portal and submit a POPIA complaint, or complete the prescribed POPIA Form 5 and email it to POPIAComplaints@inforegulator.org.za. Include the relevant facts, the responsible party’s details and supporting evidence.
